Walkability and mobility are concepts that guide the planning of actions in Cidade Pedra Branca, an international reference in urban planning. These concepts serve as a premise for the structuring of the necessary integrated parking system in favor of urban mobility that will come into operation this year 2020.
“The neighborhood already has a density where space conflicts occur due to the use of parking spaces. So, to promote mobility and facilitate access to local businesses and companies installed in the neighborhood, Pedra Branca will provide parking spaces in the center of the neighborhood”, explains Ramiro Nilson, the neighborhood infrastructure manager.
Currently, Cidade Pedra Branca has a population of 12 thousand residents, 8 thousand workers and 6 thousand students, with a centrality that includes residential condominiums, commercial buildings, shopping and services center, schools and universities and leisure areas.
The difficulty of finding a parking space makes people spend more time in traffic, which causes discomfort, irritation and impairs urban mobility. Thus, in consideration of the walkability concept, the parking spaces of Cidade Pedra Branca will be distributed throughout the neighborhood, offering comfort and safety to the regulars. The points will be interconnected to the neighborhood’s cycle path network, integrating the local mobility plan.
Differentiated concept
274 rotating parking spaces will be offered in private environments, for cars and motorcycles, with 173 spaces at Passeio Pedra Branca, in the areas next to the supermarket and gym, and 101 spaces in the first basement of the Atrium building. Access will be facilitated, in a monitored and secure system, with affordable prices and special conditions for daily and monthly plans.
In a differentiated model, the parking payment system will be decentralized. Totems for card payment will be placed in the Atrium Building and in the Praça Coberta of Passeio Pedra Branca (Covered Square). “The user will be able to park at one point and make the payment at another location, which favors mobility. In addition, it will also be possible to pay for parking by smartphone ”, explains businessman André Ostermann, director of SafePark Estacionamentos in Santa Catarina, company that will manage the Pedra Branca parking lots.
Passeio Pedra Branca establishments may offer promotional stamps to their customers. “The customer, when shopping at the store, may receive a bonus for his loyalty or consumption, which may be the total or partial release of the parking fee”, explains André, referring, respectively, to the two types of stamps offered: the agreement seal and the partnership seal. The seal can be physical or obtained through a validator to be installed in the store. “The value of the stamp will be promotional in the first 60 days: it will be charged at R$ 2.00 for the initial 3 hours”, he details.
The system of integrated parking spaces planned by Pedra Branca is unprecedented in the country, according to André Ostermann, specialist in parking and urban mobility and current president of the Intermunicipal Union of Garage Establishments, Parking, Cleaning and Conservation of Vehicles (Sindepark-SC ). “I feel the greatest pride in participating in the creation of this country’s first mobility case”, he reinforces.
