Concept and history

Inaugurated in November 2013, Passeio Pedra Branca is an invitation to a new lifestyle, an evolution in the Shopping Center concept. An open-air place, where the street intertwines with the landscaping and is balanced with nature.

The concept of Passeio Pedra Branca embraces the possibility of living, working, studying and having fun in one place. For this concept to become a reality, the Pedra Branca Group, a group that Passeio Pedra Branca is part of, started a new urbanism planning in the 90s.

In order to transform the neighborhood into a new centrality, in 2009 several renowned architecture and urbanism professionals from the region were brought together, with the collaboration of international offices. The project was named as Master Plan Pedra Branca, an extensive and structured planning to balance urban occupation, environmental respect and focus on people.

Even before the inauguration of Passeio Pedra Branca, the Group received internationally recognized urbanism awards such as the Financial Times Award for Sustainable Cities (London) and Urbanism Award at the Buenos Aires International Architecture Biennial.

Finally, in 2013, Passeio Pedra Branca was inaugurated in a large open-air event. In the same year, two condominiums were also delivered on site, the Pátio da Pedra (designed by the Marchetti Bonetti office) and the Pátio das Flores (designed by the architect Nelson Teixeira Netto). Both condominiums with ground floor stores that are part of this open-air mall.

In order to make the concept of living, working, studying and having fun within walking distance possible, the Pedra Branca Group carries out the work of bringing shops, gastronomy, services and leisure options to the Passeio Pedra Branca that are part of the residents’ routine. Also in 2013, Hippo Supermercados was inaugurated at Passeio. This is a constant work that is shaped according to the evolution of the local routine.

In 2014, the first commercial building was delivered at Passeio Pedra Branca. Office Green was designed by the Design Alternativo office, by architects André Schmitt and Daniel Rúbio, and it’s a LEED Gold certified building.

In 2015, another residential building, the Smart Residence, was inaugurated, followed by the Atrium Offices commercial building in 2016, also a LEED Gold certified building. Continuing the possibilities of work and housing, in 2016 the Aeropark Pedra Branca was launched, allotment for companies, industries and hangars, and in 2017 the Pátio Civitas, the best residential building in the history of the neighborhood, to be inaugurated in the first half of 2020.

The valorization of life on the streets

The Pedra Branca Group has 4 principles that are part of Passeio: pedestrian priority, attractive and safe public spaces, aesthetics and sustainability, and a creative and diverse city.

To encourage walking, the streets of Passeio Pedra Branca are equipped with comfortable urban furniture, trees, security, signs and accessibility, in addition to having wide sidewalks and leveled with the main street, to give priority to pedestrians.

Outdoor living in major centralities is threatened by high vehicle traffic and other factors such as overcrowding in buildings without a public function. In addition to the balanced density, Passeio offers spaces for public use, both for residents and visitors. The most well-known is the Espelho D’Água Square, a place to stroll, gather friends, family, and enjoy the outdoor space.

The Pedra Branca Arena was another initiative of the Group to give more life to the streets. The project has mountain bike and pump tracks, sand courts for volleyball, foot volley and beach tennis and slacklines for public use, allowing the practice of free physical activities by residents and visitors.

Many of the visitors are also attracted to local events. Since the inauguration of Passeio Pedra Branca, more than 100 open-air events have been held! The events involve culture, workshops and leisure for all ages. Among the most recurring events are Easter, Natal Encantado (Enchanted Christmas), Halloween, Pedra Branca Race and Children’s Day.

Live, work, study and have fun within walking distance

Passeio Pedra Branca offers the most valuable asset in the world: time. Living in a location that allows a routine with small distances makes everyday life lighter and healthier.
